The West Pittston Historical Society will present a program on the history of the borough’s Hose Company #1 and the Goodwill Hose Company. The presentation on the early years of firefighting will include many historic photos of the original West Pittston firehouse, firefighters and early fire equipment. Barry Hosier Sr. and Mary Portelli will collaborate in this presentation that will take place Monday October 17, 6:30pm at the West Pittston Library 200 Exeter Avenue West Pittston. The program is free and open to the public. Please join us for this interesting and informative presentation.

The WPHS Board of Directors will be holding a yearly public board meeting on Saturday April 9, 1:00 pm at the West Pittston Library. The meeting is open to historical society members and anyone with an interest in the historical society and their activities. This will not be a program meeting however we will be happy to answer any questions or take suggestions and comments from those attending. We hope to see you there.
If you live in West Pittston and are curious about the history of your home, this WPHS presentation will be of interest to you. The program will offer a general history of land development in the borough and how to use online resources to pin point the history and age of your home. Learn how to find out who lived in your home in the past, how to research your home’s deed, where to find map images of the borough and tips on where you might locate an old photo of your house. The resources presented will be focused on West Pittston but those from nearby communities may also find the sources helpful in their own research.
All are invited to join us for the second West Pittston History Day from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the West Pittston Library, Exeter Avenue. Residents are asked to bring old photos, slides, school items and memorabilia they think will contribute to continuing the legacy of West Pittston’s history. Scanners will be available on site and all photos and items will be returned that day. Residents are encouraged to search their homes for historical artifacts to share with future generations. Items from the society’s collection will also be on display.
